Winter Produce Guide
Citrus
Peak season. Navels, mandarins, blood oranges, lemons.
Carrots
Crisp, sweet winter carrots — often sold by the bag at farm gates.
Broccoli
Cool-season brassicas at their best. Growers' markets have abundance.
Kale
Tuscan, curly and rainbow kale. Ask about baby kale bunches.
Cauliflower
Coloured varieties — orange, purple, romanesco — available too.
Garlic
Locally grown garlic is harvested in June. Find it at markets.
Turmeric
Fresh turmeric rhizomes appear at winter markets — try them grated.
Herbs
Parsley, coriander, thyme, rosemary — winter is herb season.
Beetroot
Large, earthy roots. Buy them with their leafy tops attached.
Winter Tips
Winter is the best season to visit growers' markets in the region — cool mornings, abundant produce and no summer heat.
Look for farm gates selling citrus by the case — buying a full box is dramatically cheaper than retail.
Ask producers about cold-pressed citrus juice — some farms press to order and freeze for you.
